Stack Order is a narrative roguelite deckbuilder built around one-on-one duels against bosses with their own attack patterns. According to its Steam page, the order in which cards are played decides the outcome: cards placed next to and above one another interact, trigger synergies and modify each other's abilities. Enemies announce their intentions ahead of time, which the studio says turns each turn into "a mini logic puzzle." Players can build an attack stack for the next turn while holding a defensive pile for the current one.

The game is split into chapters with several playable characters, each with their own story, cards and archetypes, and more than 100 cards in total. Its world is drawn and animated by hand. Panflip, a French studio, told 80 Level that it wanted the game to feel like a living graphic novel. The existing demo includes the stacking system, three hand-crafted bosses and the first playable protagonist.
