One email a week is what you see. Here's what I actually make.

I publish about thirty things a month. Most people know about one of them. So here is my whole calendar in the open, and you can decide for yourself whether it is worth $55 a year.

My month

Mon · Wed · Sat

Radar

My short dispatches on the best and strangest work in experimental, independent and artist-driven games. About thirteen a month.

Killscreen Weekly

My flagship email. Features, news, notes, and everything else I think is worth knowing.

Our rundown of the week with a special guest, on games as an art form. Free, in whatever app you already use.

The Playlist

One short game I have played that week, visually distinct and uniquely compelling, and the context around it. Four a month. This is the one you are paying for.

Weekly

The members' podcast

My behind-the-scenes interviews, the long conversations with artists and designers that the pieces on this site get built from. You hear them whole.

Monthly

Cross-Conversations and the monthly talk

I put two artists who have never met in one room, with no press cycle attached. Live, and yours to ask questions in.

We all play the same thing, then meet to argue about it.

Always

The archive

Everything I have published since 2011, more than 10,000 pieces, plus all twelve print issues of Kill Screen coming back online front to back, in PDF and epub.

Members

Twenty-one of those are free, which is more than most sites give away. Members get the other ten: the four Fridays, the interviews behind the work, the room, and everything I have ever published.

Membership pays for the hours. Playing something obscure enough that nobody else will cover it, booking the interview, transcribing it, checking it, and writing the thing three times.

These games mostly do not have marketing departments. If nobody writes about them the work disappears. That is what a membership is holding open.

"The McSweeney's of interactive media."

The New Yorker

The New Yorker Wired MoMA Pitchfork Fortune PBS

I have been doing this since 2009. I curated game objects for MoMA with Paola Antonelli, programmed the first Tribeca Games Festival and the Arcade at MoMA, and hosted Game/Show for PBS Digital Studios. More about me and Killscreen.

Advertising stopped paying for criticism a long time ago and it is not coming back. Everything above exists because members pay for it directly. That is the whole business model.
