No Prompts Went Into LaTurbo Avedon's Series deep_lake
The virtual artist shared images from 64 unreleased compositions, posed and framed by hand with virtual cameras.
LaTurbo Avedon, the virtual artist and curator whose work is developed through video game worlds and simulation tools, has shared images from deep_lake, an unreleased series Avedon completed last year.
deep_lake is made up of 64 large-scale figurative compositions. Avedon describes "months of meticulous posing, virtual camera mapping, and construction of a dancefloor suspended in the bog of recursive imaging." The images in the post show clusters of pale, tangled figures streaked with fine lines of light against black backgrounds.
The same carousel looks back on Virtual Crush, a group show Avedon curated at Slash in San Francisco, which ran from May 2 to Sept. 19. It featured Melissa Broder, Arvida Byström, Claudia Hart, Kira Kutcher, Kim Laughton, Eva Papamargariti and Signe Pierce, and explored online identity and community building. In conjunction with the show, Broder read from So Sad Today, followed by a Q&A with Avedon, as part of the 2026 San Francisco Art Book Fair. The gallery has posted the recording on its YouTube channel.
Avedon has shown work at the MAK in Vienna, Transmediale in Berlin, the Haus der elektronischen Künste in Basel and the Whitney Museum in New York. Killscreen first profiled Avedon in 2014.
