Amanita Design Announces Machinarium 2, Shares Trailer
Josef and Berta return in a hand-drawn sequel to the 2009 point-and-click, scored again by Floex, with no release date yet.
Amanita Design has announced Machinarium 2, a sequel to the 2009 point-and-click adventure that made the studio’s name. The Czech team posted the news on Instagram on Oct. 8 and opened a Steam page, which lists the release as to be announced, for Windows and Mac. Watch the announcement trailer below.

Picking up after Josef and Berta’s escape from the city, the sequel crash-lands the two robots in the barrens, where they find a hidden valley settled by two tribes, one in a monastery high on the rocks, one in a city below, both slowly running short of power. Both robots are playable this time, switched freely to crack puzzles neither could solve alone, and the series keeps its wordless language of animated thought bubbles. The Steam page describes every surface as hand-drawn, “brought to life stroke by stroke, in a style that borrows from old master drawings and Renaissance landscape paintings.”
Direct gamepad control is new, moving the robots with no cursor in between, though mouse play remains. Tomáš Dvořák, aka Floex, returns as composer, and the page says the score keeps the original’s acoustic textures, now grown into symphonic arrangements. The announcement reel was posted jointly with Floex.
Since Machinarium, the studio has released Botanicula, Samorost 3, Chuchel, Pilgrims, Creaks, Happy Game and the cardboard-built Phonopolis.
