Videogame exhibitions show no signs of slowing down.

Yet another videogame exhibition has popped up. Game Change: Videogames as Art Medium and inspiration, which opened on February 27th runs until April 1st at the Jepson Center, a branch of the Telfair Museums in Savannah Georgia.

The approach is a unique contrast to the Smithsonian’s The Art of Video Games approach which features commercial games in a kiosk-like format. Ian Bogost’s A Slow Year, pictured above at Game Change, is enhanced by an environment reminiscent of the Atari VCS era.

Both the Smithsonian and Telfair are showing us the many different ways videogames can be art – one exhibition focuses on commercial games and the other focuses on contemporary artists. But lets also remember that exhibitions are only temporary.

The real game changer will be art museums that change pace and start collecting video games in all shapes and forms – how then would Bogost’s A Slow Year be shown in the future?
