The Architect's Dream
An ambitious project with UN Habitat and Minecraft studio Mojang seeks to change the face of public architecture around the world. Will it work?
On February 11th, a diverse group piled into a small room in the Kibera slum in Nairobi, Kenya. They were employees of a small UN agency, members of a boutique British digital design firm, and local residents and activists. Projected on a wall was one of the world’s most popular videogames. They weren’t teaming up for a clan match or taking turns on the latest Call of Duty. Instead, locked in passionate debate, they were re-imagining the slum itself.
