Odd Future’s Tyler, the Creator used videogames to teach himself how to skate
A segment of a larger Spin interview with Tyler, the Creator of Odd Future offered insight into his influences:
When did you get your first skateboard?
I was 12, I got a Blind. I had no one to skate with so it took me awhile to learn shit.
Did you learn from watching videos?
Pro Skater 4. It’s a fucking game. I would always play it and I was like, fuck it, I just want a skateboard.
For my money, Tony Hawk’s Underground > Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4, but on the other hand, my album did not sell 129,000 copies this year.
