Mitchell Chan's Insert Coin(s) suite is coming to Steam
Zantar, Moonboi and Ladyboss are now playable
Zantar is a retro 2D action game about a gelatinous cube that eats the warriors of a medieval village—and the anchor of a fiction about an ambitious CEO determined to make that game the most valuable platform in the world. Mitchell Chan built a gallery show out of it, Insert Coin(s), which premiered at Nguyen Wahed in New York in May 2025 and traveled to the gallery's London space that fall. Now the works have left the room: per the clip Chan posted, the new artworks from the exhibition are playable online.

The suite rewards the click-through. Moonboi is billed as "a stylized currency trading simulation"—an endless runner where you steer a Lamborghini between leveraged long and short positions and try not to get liquidated. Ladyboss is "a short tragedy, presented in the style of a Subway Surfer Story Tiktok." Overture wraps generative art, soundtracks and worldbuilding into minigame editions.
The next room in the show is getting bigger. Zantar & Other Stories is on Steam, dated 2027—six stories about the fictional game, its CEO, and the would-be millionaires pulled into its orbit.
Chan sat down with us in July for a members Playlist Session on The Boys of Summer, and the through-line holds: one critic called Chan committed to the most serious ideas of conceptualism in the most playful way possible.
