Higher Powers
We’ve been ready for virtual reality for a long time.
Humans have always had a knack for exploring the vaster reaches of the mind. Whether through imagined mythology, dynamic thinking, or altered physiological states, we tend to want to explain the unexplainable. We’re getting closer than ever before to experiencing the fullest extent of our imaginations as reality—i.e., going through the looking glass.
Past cultures and occasional visionaries have already laid the groundwork for how we might think about this. It’s worth looking back and taking note of a few ways that our species has explored other worlds.
