Hi. I'm a videogame PhD researcher. Furthermore, I've been having a bit of a career crisis.

Perhaps this is not unusual. The writer Alain de Botton, in his 2009 TED Talk, suggests that "we live in an age where our lives are regularly punctuated by career crises; by moments when what we thought we knew about our lives and our careers comes into contact with a threatening sort of reality." The threatening reality in my case seems to be this single question: Is games academia irrelevant?

To explain, I need to go back to the start. The very start.
