A mix of the autobiographical, the fantastic, and the strange, Tiffani Hooper’s thesis show at Yale focused on her relationship with her husband and the racial tensions native to mixed couples. “Aside from the frustration with inherent gender roles that can come about in a marriage, my husband served as a surrogate (and an ironic one at that) for institutional racism, a white male in some ways being the antithesis of the black female,” she says.
