Cosmic Joker
David OReilly’s new game Everything allows you to embody anything in its absurdist universe
Net artist and game designer David OReilly’s minimalist first game, Mountain, pissed some people off and led others to enlightenment by allowing only one input: rotation of the titular mountain. His upcoming Everything allows players to jump into, well, everything in its stylized universe. It’s a game about scale in many ways, not least of which are OReilly’s lofty technical aims.
Within ten minutes of entering David OReilly’s apartment, and inevitably being poured a cup of coffee, I was immediately debating the limits of comedy on the internet. Of the many disorienting effects of our new interconnected reality, the collapse of the divide between audience and joke-teller is clearly one of OReilly’s favorite subjects.
