Bored Kid Releases ArMystic Demo Ahead of Steam Next Fest
The work-in-progress build of the mixed-media RPG Maker game is free on itch.io for Windows and Mac.
ArMystic is an exploration RPG made in RPG Maker by a developer who works as Bored Kid. The work-in-progress demo went up on itch.io on Oct. 8, free for Windows and Mac. The developer calls it a build made in preparation for Steam Next Fest, whose next edition runs Oct. 19 to 26, and the Steam page lists the full game as coming soon. "After years of work, I'm happy to finally have a piece of it out there," Bored Kid wrote.

The store page promises "handcrafted mixed-media environments," and the screenshots deliver. One battle plays out in a grainy red-and-gold brick room. A coastline is drawn in flat yellow and blue pixels. Another screen is a kaleidoscope of photographed fish. Bored Kid's Instagram shows some of the bench work, including character art built on a clay-covered toy gun.
The stated influences are LSD: Dream Emulator and Yume Nikki, the two games nearly every surreal wander-around project cites. Both made dreams out of spaces that never explain themselves, and ArMystic keeps that rule: the page says the game "does not hold your hand." What it adds is collage. Drawing, photo and pixel share a frame the way they do in a zine, and RPG Maker, a tool better known for uniform tilesets, is the glue.
The full game lists turn-based combat, multiple endings, and a soundtrack of more than 120 original tracks. The itch page is tagged as made with no generative AI. Killscreen wrote about an effort to remake LSD: Dream Emulator in 2014.
