The rise and rise of a light-gun aficionado
[Stage 02-01. Time: 08’15”28. Lives Lost: 0]
In the sliver of time between my finger pulling the light gun’s trigger and the laser hitting the screen, the masked terrorist peeks out from behind the log cabin, just in time for my shot to connect with his head. Next, four more enemies jump out: A blue from each side of the screen, a red from behind the cabin, and a grenadier in Kevlar from behind the tree. I fire five shots in quick succession—one for each enemy, one for the mid-air grenade—and all four die near-simultaneously. I have a single bullet left in the chamber, but I don’t reload; I wait. A yellow enemy dashes out from the far side of the cabin. I twitch and fire, hitting him before he can disappear off the side of the screen.
“Suuuugoooiii,” I hear a girl whisper behind me.
