Hidden life lessons in digital rock walls.
I’ve never been good at sports. Nothing about me screams “natural athleticism.” I’ve often blamed that on my build: skinny, uncoordinated, and kind of short.
But I fell in love with videogames. I was presented with a completely level playing field, one where I could be an equal competitor despite my size. While I was too small and too slow to be any good at basketball (in my seventh grade season, I scored, on average, fewer than two points per game), I was unstoppable while playing NBA Jam on my Sega Genesis, where my competition and I had equal turbo bars.
