2011 was a weird year in gaming for me. The graphics card on my gaming PC kicked the bucket not once, but twice, and four months ago I left my consoles behind when I moved from Chicago to Copenhagen. As a result, I played some pretty wacky games and missed out on some big titles that I’ll have to catch up on in 2012. The games that stood out to me when I stopped to reflect were ones that ignored traditional genres, allowed the player to take risks, encouraged players to interact with each other in new ways, or had some element or mechanic that was just perfectly executed. As it happens, those criteria lined up pretty well with the games I played this year that were the most fun, too.
