Melbourne letterer, designer and illustrator [Matthew Wong](https://www.iamthewong.com/?ref=killscreen.com) has made an alternative poster for [Zach Cregger](https://www.killscreen.com/tag/zach-cregger/)'s *Resident Evil*, modeled on the poster for Martin Scorsese's *After Hours* (1985). In [the new piece](https://www.instagram.com/p/DeIYuh4yLEO/?ref=killscreen.com), Wong writes that the film belongs to the "guy has a bad night" canon, the same lineage as Scorsese's comedy about a word processor stranded overnight in SoHo.

Cregger's adaptation, made at Sony's Screen Gems, opened in September. It follows the director's horror films *Barbarian* and *Weapons*, which is the run Wong salutes in calling Cregger "three for three." The poster's argument is about genre: it files the film with New Hollywood night-odyssey movies rather than with earlier *Resident Evil* adaptations.

Wong's commercial lettering and illustration work is collected on [the artist's site](https://www.iamthewong.com/?ref=killscreen.com).
