NewImages Festival has opened submissions for the Virtual Worlds Competition at its 2027 edition, which runs April 21 to 25 in Paris. The festival [announced the reopening on Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/p/DebZSCikXHF/?ref=killscreen.com) with a call to VRChat, Roblox and Viverse worldbuilders; the competition page also lists Fortnite Creative, independent online worlds, multiplayer art spaces and interactive installations in virtual environments. Submissions are free and close Dec. 22.

Selected worlds join the official competition at the festival and compete for the €3,000 Virtual Worlds Award, with two festival accreditations attached. The organizers say they are looking for “artistic, narrative and experimental experiences that explore new ways of creating, performing and connecting in virtual spaces,” and no premiere status is required.

The call sits beside the festival’s XR Competition, which accepts VR, AR, mixed reality and narrative videogames, and a dome competition; all of the [open calls](https://www.newimages.art/calls-for-projects?ref=killscreen.com) share the Dec. 22 last-call deadline, with an early-bird date of Dec. 10\. Industry Days run April 20 to 23.

The Virtual Worlds Competition ran at the 2026 edition as part of Immersions at the Cité des sciences et de l’industrie, with a seven-work selection that included VMOVA’s curated online exhibition *What Is Virtual Art - Volume 1*, Adam Lieber and Chris Bianchi’s *Strangeways* and ReVerse Butcher’s *The last stanza*.
