Austin's Museum of Human Achievement is building a casino, and it wants your rigged slot machine in it. Through Oct. 15, the DIY art space is [taking proposals](https://moha.wiki/In%5Fthe%5FZone:%5FGroup%5FExhibition%5FOpen%5FCall?ref=killscreen.com) for In the Zone, a group show staged as an absurdist casino during the Austin Studio Tour, Nov. 14 to 22\.

The one rule is structural: every work has to respond to gambling or games of chance, and visitors have to be able to bet on it, in a fictional house currency called Human Dollars. The museum suggests unconventional slots, twisted roulette, scratch-offs, works that chew on prediction markets and crypto scams, even set dressing: paintings of dogs gambling, chandeliers.

New works earn a stipend up to $800, existing ones $150 to $250, and the museum expects thousands of visitors a day. Per [the museum's announcement](https://www.instagram.com/p/DeCn600CVbK/?ref=killscreen.com), the show is guest curated by Sam Lavigne, whose own work has long treated scraping, markets and corporate language as material.

2026, the museum writes, is truly the year of strung-out gamblers and grifters, and there has never been a better time to gamble away what little savings you have.

It's been a fun subject we've looked at, most recently[last October](https://www.killscreen.com/gamblification-labubu-loot-boxes-gambling-mechanicsretry/), tracing loot boxes and blind-box toys to the gamblification of everything, and back in 2015 we covered [Jason Rohrer putting real money on the table](https://www.killscreen.com/jason-rohrers-new-game-involves-gambling-real-money-win-amulets/) in a game.
