# Designer-artist Yuri Suzuki plays with sound in first exhibition

We’re big fans of London-based sound designer and artist [Yuri Suzuki](http://yurisuzuki.com/?ref=killscreen.com). He recently collaborated with will.i.am to [produce a series of mechanical instruments](http://yurisuzuki.com/news/the-pyramidi/?ref=killscreen.com) for the [Barbican’s “Digital Revolution” exhibition](http://killscreendaily.com/articles/harmonix-featured-alongside-bjork-and-bunch-cool-electronic-artists-new-gallery-show/?ref=killscreen.com). He runs his own creative lab to partner with folks at synth maker [Teenage Engineering](http://www.teenageengineering.com/?ref=killscreen.com) and headphone maker [AIAIAI](http://www.aiaiai.dk/?ref=killscreen.com) (who we worked with at our MoMA Arcade). And of course, he makes a lot of amazing art that “raises questions of the relation between sound and people and how music and sound affect people’s mind,” he says.

So this Friday, Suzuki will be r[eceiving his first ever solo exhibition](http://www.japantimes.co.jp/events/2014/08/14/art-guide/mixed-media-art-guide/playing-sound-yuri-suzuki/?ref=killscreen.com#.U%5FSptEjfEvf) in his home country of Japan at the Pola Museum Annex in Tokyo. Appropriately titled “Playing with Sound,” it’ll showcase a wide variety of his work including the “[Garden of Russalo](http://yurisuzuki.com/works/garden-of-russolo/?ref=killscreen.com)” (above), a sonic experience powered by the visitor’s own voice and transform them into atmospheric sounds. There’s also the [Ototo](http://dentakulondon.com/ototo/?ref=killscreen.com), a tiny musical programming board that lets you generate sounds from anything (like [cabbage](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zyAHQtZfGpA&ref=killscreen.com).)
