- Description: The Future Entertainment Company built a 60-square-kilometer sealed zone on real-world topography, the way S.T.A.L.K.E.R. leaned on Chernobyl.

The news is the platform. On August 17, The Future Entertainment Company announced that *DDoD* is coming to Xbox Series X|S day and date with the PC launch on [Steam](https://store.steampowered.com/app/2468200/DDoD/?ref=killscreen.com) and Epic, all in the fourth quarter of this year, with [a new gameplay trailer](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QGOUpsEWD7o&ref=killscreen.com) for the reveal. It's a top-down roguelite shooter for one to four players, and the studio's own pitch is unusually honest about its parents: *Diablo* pacing inside a *S.T.A.L.K.E.R.* atmosphere. You explore, hunt gear, trade with the locals who never left, and decide whether to fight your way to the anomaly's source or slip past it. A demo with full four-player co-op is [live on Steam now](https://store.steampowered.com/app/2468200/DDoD/?ref=killscreen.com).

The exclusion zone is games' most durable import from film—*S.T.A.L.K.E.R.* leaned on Chernobyl, which leaned on Tarkovsky, and [a geographer once told us](https://www.killscreen.com/tarkovskys-stalker-taught-a-geographer-how-to-write-about-damaged-landscapes/) that Tarkovsky's *Stalker* is still the best manual for writing about damaged landscapes. Building the zone from real topography takes the metaphor literally.

Games keep borrowing the exclusion zone, and we keep following them in—Killscreen has been mapping this territory since 2010\. The free newsletter is where the thread continues.
