*Dark Souls 2* has been announced. I thought I would have been giddy with excitement, but I’m not.

I love *Demon’s Souls* and *Dark Souls*. They are some of the best games ever made, but playing one is an ordeal. I would hyperbolically equate it to climbing Mount Everest: worth it in every respect and a proud achievement, but not one you are particularly eager to take up again.

So when I say I am not excited it is because I realize the undertaking the game will require. I contemplate the toll this game will have on my psyche and my life outside of games. It will test my tenacity, and may best me like *Dark Souls* did. The trailer for *DS2* informs you that you are “Forever without hope, forever without light”. That about sums up the series in its entirety.
