Where

Stavanger Art Museum, Henrik Ibsens gate 55, Stavanger, Norway

170 Norwegian kroner; free for students and anyone under 18

The Arcangel Surfware Flagship was [32 square meters](https://coryarcangel.com/works/2017-062-arcangel-surfware-flagship?ref=killscreen.com) of slatwall in Storhaug, a borough of Stavanger, Norway, where Cory Arcangel sold sweatpants and pool slides "for surfing the web" and worked the counter in person. It ran from 2018 to 2019\. On Nov. 14 it returns as the centerpiece of [*Family Office*](https://www.stavangerkunstmuseum.no/en/events/cory-arcangel?ref=killscreen.com), Arcangel's first solo exhibition in Norway, at Stavanger Art Museum through March 29, 2027\. The museum, which reopens that day after an upgrade, bought the whole store in 2024 and is showing it as an installation for the first time.

Cory Arcangel announces **Family Office* in [a reel posted by Stavanger Art Museum](https://www.instagram.com/p/DeJ2uEFt2ie/?ref=killscreen.com).

In [the announcement reel](https://www.instagram.com/p/DeJ2uEFt2ie/?ref=killscreen.com), filmed harborside in Stavanger, Arcangel gives the timeline: arrival in 2015 after 15 years in New York, fatherhood right away, departure in 2025\. The show is the 10 years of work made there. A family office is also a finance term, the private firm that manages one wealthy family's money, and the museum's text duly gestures at "branding, and economic capital." Arcangel's captions are plainer: "what I really mean it as is Family and Office."

The museum's photo of the store's 2018 opening lists [*Mig 29 Soviet Fighter Plane, Clouds, and OS X*](https://coryarcangel.com/works/2016-033-mig-29-soviet-fighter-plane-clouds-and-os-x?ref=killscreen.com) (2016) among the works in frame: Arcangel's 2005 pair of hacked NES cartridges, a jet and a sky on an endless loop, moved onto a Mac mini running the OpenEmu emulator. The artist of *Super Mario Clouds* ended up migrating old ROMs like the rest of us.

Killscreen [wrote in 2014](https://www.killscreen.com/cory-arcangel-recovers-warhol-art-old-floppy-disks/) about Arcangel helping recover Andy Warhol's Amiga drawings from failing floppies. Twelve years on, the floppy is the medium and the store is the artifact. Its catalogue entry already reads like a sign on the door: "Thx 2 all who stopped by."
