Gesture controls like those promised by Xbox One’s new Kinect sensor will [change more than the way we play games](http://www.popsci.com/technology/article/2013-07/five-ways-gestural-control-could-change-everything?ref=killscreen.com). Not sure if I’d want a virtual surgeon cutting into my kidneys, though…

Speaking of promises: Next-gen news is flowing out of Europe like a fine cherry soda. Microsoft pounced first with news of [launch day titles](http://www.joystiq.com/2013/08/20/xbox-one-launch-day-line-up/?ref=killscreen.com) and a self-publishing program for indies called [ID@Xbox](http://www.xbox.com/en-us/Developers/id?ref=killscreen.com).

Sony came out of the gate next with [a price-drop for PS Vita](http://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/2013/08/20/ps-vita-and-vita-memory-cards-gets-a-price-cut/?ref=killscreen.com), the free-to-play *Little Big Planet Hub,* a slew of indie titles (like[ *Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture*](http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-07-30-dear-esthers-spiritual-successor-everybodys-gone-to-the-rapture-detailed?ref=killscreen.com), Chinese Room’s follow-up to *Dear Esther)*, and a PS4 release date: 11/15 (NA), 11/29 (Europe).

And then of course there’s *The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth*.

Ubisoft is feeding the slow burn hunger for [16-bit styled RPGs with Child of Light.](http://www.polygon.com/2013/8/19/4635620/ubisofts-child-of-light-is-a-fairy-tale-inspired-jrpg?ref=killscreen.com) The best part: It uses the same graphics engine as *Rayman Legends.* Gobsmackingly beautiful grinding ahead!

Digital may be sexy, but analog is practical. [Why CEOs should play more board games.](http://www.nytimes.com/2013/08/18/jobs/what-a-board-game-can-teach-a-ceo.html?smid=tw-share&%5Fr=0&ref=killscreen.com)

Notch and his team at Mojang hit one out of the park with *Minecraft (*no longer a [Microsoft console exclusive](https://twitter.com/notch/status/369887745139015680?ref=killscreen.com), *whaaaat?)*. His follow-up, *0x10c*, is now a pop-up fouled off to the catcher. (The space computer sim is cancelled.) [But wait! Fans aim to keep it alive.](http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/08/19/0x10c-cancelled-for-good-but-fans-plan-to-do-it-anyway/?ref=killscreen.com)

What might not be alive but is cute all the same? Even if it has a mouth on its forehead? The incredible Burton-meets-Argento *[Murasaki Baby](http://gematsu.com/2013/08/murasaki-baby-announced-for-ps-vita?ref=killscreen.com).*
