In the state of California alone, current generation consoles burn through [1,100 gigawatts a year](http://www.polygon.com/2013/10/3/4767660/games-consoles-are-bad-for-the-environment-but-they-are-improving?ref=killscreen.com). That’s a lot of watts, one billion of them to be precise, or enough to employ a medium-sized power plant. The good news is that the Xbox One and Playstation 4 will be more efficient when running tasks not related to games, such as streaming Netflix. The bad? Well, no one buys a console for Netflix.

Over at Wired, Daniel Feit writes about [the burgeoning indie scene in Tokyo](http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2013/10/indie-games-tokyo/?ref=killscreen.com#slideid-77291), Japan. As they have in West, mega-corporation Sony is lending a helping hand to the little guys. What does indie mean again?

Might & Delight share some stylish mama badger concept art in their [postmortem for *Shelter*](http://www.gamasutra.com/blogs/AndreasWangler/20131003/201555/Shelter%5F%5FA%5FPost%5FMortem.php?ref=killscreen.com) at Gamasutra. It’s very *Fantastic Mr. Fox*! Also, they say they’re considering a spinoff in the vein of *Tamagotchi*. Nice.

Goodbye blocky polygons. Chris Hecker shows off the swinging new graphical overhaul of his long-labored *SpyParty*.

Jacob Bakkila is the creator of horse\_ebooks, the ironically hip Twitter account that pumped dada musings into your daily feed. Now he’s made [a FMV videogame](http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/201691/Life%5Fafter%5FHorseebooks%5FBear%5FStearns%5FBravos%5Fweird%5FFMV%5Frevival.php?ref=killscreen.com).

[Microsoft](http://www.polygon.com/2013/10/7/4814100/xbox-ones-kinect-wont-harvest-marketing-data-microsoft-says?ref=killscreen.com) has given us their word that the new Kinect will not collect big data to sell us ads. Scout’s honor.

[The *Angry Birds* theme park](http://www.polygon.com/2013/10/7/4812374/angry-birds-theme-park-opens-in-china?ref=killscreen.com) has hatched in the Zhejiang province of China. Yes, it just looks like a crowded playground with *Angry Birds* licensing. But there does appear to be a life-sized catapult on the premises.

*Have fun!*
