Comfort Zone, an installation by Amélie McKee and Melle Nieling, is on view at IMPAKT in Utrecht through Nov. 15 in the group exhibition Data Never Dies. A portable DVD player shows characters one of the artists made in *The Sims* 20 years ago and recently found again on their mother's Windows XP laptop. In [IMPAKT's clip](https://www.instagram.com/p/DedsLgNAdNx/?ref=killscreen.com), a Sims lot fills with flames on the little screen. Watch it below.

IMPAKT's [page for the work](http://impakt.nl/events/exhibition/data-never-dies/comfort-zone/?ref=killscreen.com) calls the DVD player "a portal to a digital space that seems frozen in time," where the Sims "linger like the undead on a hard drive," and says the piece asks about "the spirits of our past selves that haunt hard drives and digital clouds."

Data Never Dies: Digital Traces and AI Afterlives is curated by Rosa Wevers and built around profiles that outlive their owners, forgotten messages that train AI and deepfakes. Others include Ginevra Petrozzi's *A Funeral for Digital Data*; Joeri Boelhouwer's video installation *Digital Tomb*; Esther Hovers's *The Right to Be Forgotten*; and Kyriaki Goni's *Deletion Process\_Only You Can See My History*. Wevers leads a last curator's tour on Nov. 1.

McKee, born in 1996, builds objects that resemble working devices from buttons, cables and switches and holds an MA from the Royal College of Art. Nieling, born in 1992 in the Netherlands, works with the visual language of corporate architecture and internet spam, won the VFF Annual Award in 2026 and begins a residency at FACT in Liverpool this autumn.
